Sydney looked at her parents and smiled. “Thank you,” she said before she looked around at everyone else and she said, “and thank you too,” properly. Looking at Stacey she accepted the card and said, “thanks aunt Stacey.” At her father’s question she nodded as she moved to stand up a bit, getting up into the chair with her knees so that she could see better. “Please.”

Stacey shifted Sebastian, placing his back on the ground. “You are growing into a big boy,” she chuckled. “You are almost too heavy for me to carry,” she said playfully pinching his cheeks as she knelt down beside him.

Sydney looked around the table at everyone and she felt so filled with love. At her father’s words, she nodded with a smile. “It doesn’t matter,” she said lovingly. She was just grateful. She knew she was spoiled rotten as it was and the older she was getting the more she was realizing that all the material things didn’t really matter. Especially in their family. They had it all. So, the little things mattered the most. Looking down at her little brother, Sydney scrunched her nose and she leaned over the chair some to hug him. “I love you Bash,” she said sweetly before she looked at her father nodding.

Stacey hugged the little boy back before she moved to stand upright, sitting down at the table with everyone else.

Samuel waited for Sydney, grabbing a plate to place the first slice on. When she nodded at him, he held the knife with her, cutting a slice of cake he felt was perfect enough, well on his account. He placed that slice on the plate balancing it with the knife before he grabbed another plate.

Mercedes rubbed Sanaa’s back and leaned forward, elbows on the table as she tucked hair behind her ear and watched as Samuel and Sydney cut the cake together. She smiled softly, her heart fluttering in her chest at the sight. After they cut the first piece, Mercedes took the plate and handed it out.

Sanaa sat on the table, giggling softly as she watched her father and sister cut the cake and her big brown eyes glowed. Reaching out, she stuck her finger into the side of the cake and laughed out infectiously.

Samuel looked at Sanaa squinting his playfully. “Hey you, don’t you dare,” he teased as he placed some icing on her nose. He cut another slice, licking icing off his finger, and he moaned. “That’s good icing,” he told them with a smirk, cutting up the cake.

Sebastian hugged Sydney back lovingly before he moved around the chair and climbed into it with her. He sat up on his knees like Sydney as he watched them cut the cake with a bright smile. Sugar!

She cooed watching with wide eyes as Mercedes slid the plate before her and she said, “thank you,” in a slur as she dug her hands into the cake, mashing it into her mouth.

Stacey narrowed her eyes at Samuel and said, “sure,” with a chuckle before she looked at Sanaa shaking her head as she watched her eat the cake.

Samuel cut another slice and then another, sitting them on the table for anyone to try. He handed Stacey a slice and a fork before he sat down contently, he didn’t want any cake really.

Sebastian leaned in, pressing his hands into the table as he watched them cut the cake over and over again. He waited until the next slice was plated before he grabbed the plate and picked up the piece with his hands, eating it bite by bite.
